Elton John has had to cancel several more tour dates after being admitted to hospital with an E.coli infection and flu.

The star, 62, cancelled all of his UK gigs last week and has now shelved dates in Seattle, Washington and Portland, which he was due to play with Billy Joel.

He was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London on Friday and is said to be undergoing a number of tests to find out why his illness is so severe.

His spokesman said: "He is recovering from a case of serious influenza with minor complications. We are confident he will be back on stage in the near future."

Promoters are working to reschedule the gigs.
